About the Friedman Foundation
Dr. Gerald J. Friedman was an early pioneer in the field of diabetes whose medical career spanned more than 50 years. At Beth Israel Medical Center, he served as chief of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (which was dedicated in his honor in 1975), chief of metabolism and endocrinology, chief of diabetes and metabolism, and vice president and president of the medical board.
Major funding for the Friedman Diabetes Institute comes from the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman New York Foundation for Medical Research. The Foundation was created in 1992 to support Dr. Friedman's life-long commitment to the study and practice of internal medicine, diabetes and metabolism, clinical nutrition, cardiology, and endocrinology.
We are deeply grateful to the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman New York Foundation for Medical Research for making possible the Friedman Diabetes Institute. Our gratitude goes to Judith I. Kennedy, Lewis Bernstein, Jane Friedman and their fellow trustees for their vision and philanthropic spirit.
