People with Diabetes
Managing diabetes can seem overwhelming at first, but the caring diabetes educators, nurses, nutritionists and exercise consultants at the Friedman Diabetes Institute are dedicated to helping you live a full, healthy life.
We've created an educational website that gives you information on how to manage diabetes to stay healthy and avoid complications.
In the learn about diabetes section, you'll learn about the importance of keeping your blood sugar in a healthy range and how good nutrition, exercise and medications can help. You'll also learn about the problems that come when blood sugar is too high or too low and what people with diabetes need to do to take care of their eyes, feet, skin, and teeth.
For a truly interactive experience, try out our Explore the Body Exercise to find out how diabetes affects parts of our bodies and what we can do to prevent and treat complications.
We also provide information on diabetes in youth, coping with caregiver stress, and recognizing depression among many other topics.
Ask your primary care doctor or endocrinologist to refer you for diabetes education consultations with a nutritionist, exercise physiologist and diabetes nurse educator. Patients referred for these services will not be seen by an endocrinologist, but only by a nutritionist, nurse or exercise specialist. Call (212) 420-3450 for more information.
